SPRING NEWS LETTER

May 25, 2012

Dear Residents

Hope this letter finds you all well. Spring is finally here, which means construction time and we are doing our share. We have sanitary sewer rehabilitation, storm sewer, and water and roadway improvements on the Black Tract, Curtis, Van Epps, Front and Verona Streets. Please be patient with the contractors and your village employees. Spring cleanup is well under way so please help our D.P.W. by keeping green waste separated.
When mowing your lawn please keep grass clippings out of the street as it clogs storm sewers. Garbage goes out no earlier than 4p.m. the night before and cans are to be picked up by 7p.m. the day it’s picked up. These are both village ordinances so please obey them.
Village speed limit is 30 M.P.H. (20 in school zone) and we have had several concerns on our side streets about speeding. We have many young families in the village with many children playing outside in the nice weather, so please slow down and keep them safe!
The summer park program will get started on Monday July 9th through August 17th.It will be held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 9A.M. at the village park. This year we are lucky enough to have Jessica Planck as our park program director for the summer. She is a teacher in the Madison Central School system. She is also the past mayor Violet Trosts’ granddaughter.
Look for an upgrade in the village website. It will be more interactive with the ability to get information out quicker and get your feedback directly to the website. You will be able to sign up and get emails from us with announcements of upcoming events, minutes from meetings, newsletters and even emergency notifications. (Boil water or snowstorm parking restrictions etc.) We are very excited about this and will actually save a few bucks!
There are many events going on in and around the village starting with the Memorial Day parade, Kids day celebration. The (BRRUUUUCE!) Springstein Concert and of course our 2nd annual Fall Festival.
The 2012 budget is in place. With some hard work and a few necessary cuts there will be no tax increase. We also held the line on water and sewer, with no rate increase for either. (Outside water users got a small increase). That was with a 14% increase from Oneida with whom we purchase our water from. We were able to do this thanks to the savings due to our water project.
Our Volunteer Fire Dept. is looking for some dedicated individuals for recruits. If you are interested in becoming a member of the best department around see the flyer enclosed.
With Memorial Day around please take time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great country so we all can truly be free. Have a safe and awesome summer!!!!May 2012

BRUSH AND GRASS CLIPPINGS

Due to new DEC Regulations we need to separate waste as follows:
CURB SIDE RULES
·   Brush separated by itself
·   Grass clippings and garden waste can be put together
·   We can no longer except landscaping lumber

SEWER TREATMENT PLANT RULES
There are two separate piles labeled as follows:
·   Brush
·   Grass Clippings and Garden Waste

Brush may be dropped off at the Sewer Plant, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. Please remember to mow the grass near the curb with your discharge chute pointed away from the street. Every year we ask for your co-operation to help us conserve your tax dollars by preventing the clogging of our storm sewers with grass. It may seem inconsequential, but there is a village ordinance prohibiting the placement of clippings in the street.

DOGS
Just a reminder that there is a Leash Law in the Village. The Village law states that no dog shall be at large in the village at anytime. They can only be loose on their own property under supervision by the owner of the dog.

Anyone owning a dog that defecates or soils any common public property or private property without the permission of the owner shall immediately remove all deposited waste.

YARD SALES
Please remember that garage and yard sales require a permit. These are available from the Village Clerk at no charge.
