Village of Vernon Newsletter
Dear Village residents,

Hope this letter finds you well. Spring is here and the flowers are blooming and the grass is green. Sounds of birds singing and people reintroducing themselves to their neighbors (who hibernated all winter) and lawn mowers (not snow blowers) are in the air. With that, when mowing please keep grass clippings out of the street as they clog our storm sewers. Also nice weather brings out our children, playing ball, riding bikes etc, so slow down on our streets speed limit is 30MPH (20 in a school zone). We want to keep all safe! Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after when walking. If your dog likes to bark a lot remember your neighbors might not enjoy it as much as you and there is a village ordinance about barking dogs.
Garbage cans are not to go out before 4 P.M. the night before trash pickup and picked up before 7 P.M. the night of trash pick up. Help us keep our village looking as nice as we can.
Parking at the village park has always been an issue. We have striped for parking spots if they are full use Village Hall parking lot. We need to keep room for Fire Dept to get emergency vehicles down there. If your loved one is injured or needs medical service you would want them to be able to get to the help they need as fast as possible. Cars parked in No Parking Zones WILL be ticketed. Safety 1st is our priority. No alcohol is permitted at park and dogs MUST be leashed and in control by owner.
We are thrilled to have Jessica Planck to head up our Park Program again (yea Jess!!). They will start Tuesday July 9th at 9 A.M. at the Village Park. The program will be Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings thru August 9th concluding with a field trip and a Pizza Day. Updates and schedule changes will be posted on the Village Website.
Coming events this year include Baseball/Softball opening day parade on May 18th at 9AM. Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 27th.Village wide Garage Sale on June 15th with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by Fire Department at the Fire Hall. The 3rd Annual Vernon Fall Festival will be September 7th at Town Hall Park with much more info to come as they come together.
The Budget is in place and with a lot of work from your Village Board, the key word is No. Taxes, no increase or no loss of services of any kind. Water and Sewer Rates, no increases. This was one of the hardest budgets I have worked on but with a lot of time and effort we kept cost down. Once again thanks to our board members for the hard work and choices we made to make this work.
Look for more sidewalks to be replaced and paving and drainage improvements on North St and Cooper Street. Last years construction disaster (thanks CCI) WILL be fixed this summer. The so called grass that isn’t growing will be fixed so you can enjoy your yard before summer if we have to hire someone not named CCI to fix it. Thanks for your patience and I am truly sorry for that.
The Vernon Volunteer Fire Company is still looking for members to help them serve OUR community. They also are looking for Jr. Firefighter’s ages 16 to 18 to help out. If you are looking for away to help out your community and are willing to donate a lot of time for the self-satisfaction that you did something good for others please join. Go to their website www.vernonfd.org or click the link off our website for more info.
Village meetings are the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30 at the Village Hall. Changes to dates are posted on our website www.villageofvernonny.com along with contact info and upcoming events. Please keep us informed on issues, as we can’t help if we don’t know about them.

Have a safe and happy summer,
Your Mayor Jerry Seymour Jr.

BRUSH AND GRASS CLIPPINGS

Due to new DEC Regulations we need to separate waste as follows:
CURB SIDE RULES
·   Brush separated by itself
·   Grass clippings and garden waste can be put together
·   We can no longer accept landscaping lumber

SEWER TREATMENT PLANT RULES
There are two separate piles labeled as follows:
·   Brush
·   Grass Clippings and Garden Waste

Brush may be dropped off at the Sewer Plant, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. Please remember to mow the grass near the curb with your discharge chute pointed away from the street. Every year we ask for your co-operation to help us conserve your tax dollars by preventing the clogging of our storm sewers with grass. It may seem inconsequential, but there is a village ordinance prohibiting the placement of clippings in the street.

DOGS
Just a reminder that there is a Leash Law in the Village. The Village law states that no dog shall be at large in the village at anytime. They can only be loose on their own property under supervision by the owner of the dog.

Anyone owning a dog that defecates or soils any common public property or private property without the permission of the owner shall immediately remove all deposited waste.

YARD SALES
Please remember that garage and yard sales require a permit. These are available from the Village Clerk at no charge.
